What a big day!
We slept well and enjoyed a breakfast in our hotel this morning. We get 50% off all food in the hotel which makes it even better! We went to the MRT statiopn for the first time and organised the card to travel with and loaded it up. We went to Bugis St for the markets as our first stop. It rained a little but the stalls were all under a roof so it was fine. Lots of touristy things there, just as it was 40 years ago. We then got the train up to Orchard Road and looked at some of the centres there. Lucky Plaza is very junky now and no tourists there at all. The big ION centre was lovely, most of the same shops though as we have now. Got a few things in a shop that was in NY but not in Perth and we had a great lunch in the food court on the ground floor. A set meal (soup, grilled chicken and rice etc all for $6). We walked around for quite a while and then returned by MRT to the hotel. We enjoyed a late afternoon swim and a drink by the pool and then showerred and went out at about 6pm. Headed for the Marina Bay Sands hotel and got the lift up to the skypark on the 57th floor. You pay $23 to go to the obserrvation deck but it's free if you go to the top level and have a drink in the bar! WWe stayed up there for about an hour and a half and watched all the lights come on. it was sensational. At 7.45 pm the gardens put on a light show so we watched it from up the top. We got down about 8.15 pm and walked through the hotel and casino complex and settled on a buffet tea at the hotel atrium restaurant. It was a wonderful buffet and we kept saying how the Nonni would have loved it! We then caught the MRT back and wandered back to the hotel.
